Muktinath trek (May 2011)

Day 1
After making two rounds above the clouds thought the plan of the trekking would be changed but did not happen we landed in jomsom at 2730 meters.
landscape are totally different (drier mountains, windy) but the snow capped mountains on both sides were as high as the the clouds and  still higher.
The first day trekked to Muktinath passing kagbeni an old village with Buddhist religion .
The people here are called Thakali..
After kagbeni we started climbing to muktinath looking at the wide river bed made by kaligandaki from millions of years, where Hindu people look for fossils in rock. the Hindus believe it as the incarnation of  lord Vishu.

After walking for 4 hrs we came to village called Jarkot  and old village which has a 500 years old monastery .
the hole village looks like one house when you visit it. The in the village looks like a tunnel which are attached with every single houses. A damaged fort that existed when Nepal was divided  into different kingdoms.

On the other side of the village We could see more then 100 caves where the warriors used to live.
There are research going on in upper mustang (forbidden kingdom) in similar caves where old Chinese scripts were found and some golden written scripts.

From jarkot we headed for Muktinath . Muktinath means the god of salvation or freedom.
Muktinath is a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhist. Both there religion have their own believe.
Buddhist believe that Tibetan holy god Padmasambhava came here and got enlightened here.
Hindus believe that Vishnu was cursed and turned in to stone. The 108 bull and cows heads where water flows are taken as pure water to purify our selves.
I did that in last Jan you wont believe I had water crystals on my hair. It was very cold.

Day 2
Next day we departed for Marpha a village famous for apple farming and the Apple wine. An easy trek that
where made us enjoy apple brandy. it was damn hot. The people with me (Polish) did enjoy apple brandy.

Day 3
Marpha to Ghasa was very beautiful trek with beautiful mountain views, worlds deepest gorge and the dense pine forest. for a while just went out of track to show my clients a different beautiful valley.

Day 4
Ghasa to Tatopani. It was also an easy day that went down all the way. Tatopani has nice hotels and Hot spring from which the name of the place came. Tatopani means hot spring.
Day 5
Tatopani to ghorepani. It is a day at once you think why did you pay to do this trek. My clients they were awesome  always laughing and enjoying. Particular day thought of pony trek almost at the end. The funny comment made by Zebe made me laugh which gave me pain in my stomach that was (no long walking and no horse anymore in Nepal) They had hard time with horse which gave them butt pain.
Day 6
Gorepani to Pokhara : The last day I woke up the Zebe and Margo at 4:30 and started climbing to poon Hill. It is a walk almost of the trekkers do to see the sunrise and the mountain in golden color but I suggest if the afternoon is clear it is much better to have mountain views. We had really good views of the mountains though the sunrise was cloudy. Trekked all the back to Pokhara that took us 8 hrs. After a good dinner we all went on our own way.

It was a very good trek with the Polish people and enjoyed a lot.
